About the Artist
Rita grew up watching her grandfather, an accomplished landscape artist, paint in California. At 14 years old, she started Chinese brush painting lessons in Hong Kong and continued painting throughout her life. In college, her favorite class was art history in Heidelberg Germany. She immersed herself in many museums while studying French in Paris. She pursued law and practiced as a litigator in Los Angeles and the Washington DC area for many years. She later joined the startup world including in-house counsel roles.
After an open-heart surgery (at an unexpectedly “young age” of 52), Rita focused on watercolor florals with happy colors. She spends much time in St. Michaels, Maryland, as reflected in her artwork.
Combining art with her entrepreneurial spirit, Rita designs knot bags at TingHopper.com
Her paintings consistently incorporate movement with an appreciation of blending colors.
Rita and her husband, Michael, currently live in Arlington Virginia with 2 grown sons visiting from UVA, travels, work, and other shenanigans.
"What I learned about Art is that the basic principle of painting applies to life. "
